A myth community?
Lucidism is a myth community or meta religion. This means it's a self-aware religion that doesn't take itself literally. We don't claim to know the ultimate, final truth. But we still choose to work with a specific myth as our best approximation to how things work. We live and act as if the myth were true without needing to force ourselves to believe something unbelievable. This softer approach to faith is more accessible in the modern age and is an adaptation to prevent the violence of old-school religions. Whether you believe, make-believe, or alternate back and forth throughout the day, you're doing it.
Why the dream theme?
- Putting God to sleep explains why bad things happen without the need for an adversary. This makes us responsible for our lives, with support, and deprograms us out of needing an evil 'other' to motivate us.
- A strong, clear theme creates a cohesive community.
- Our subconscious can't tell the difference between being awake and dreaming, so this myth can affect us on a deep level.
Why lucid dreaming?
Lucid dreaming is when we become aware we are dreaming and gain creative control over what we do. This reflects the change that comes from acknowledging a higher power and living intentionally and joyfully. It let's each one of us be the center of our own dream while still being just a part of the larger Dream.
Why monotheism?
It binds all people and things together through a single reference point, leading to more cohesion on the community level, love for those outside the belief system, and wholistic integrity of individuals themselves.
Why is God the Dreaming Mother?
God is an infinite being beyond all binaries but it is spiritually bypassing to say that we don't need to rebalance our subconscious after 2000 years of a Father God/patriarchy. For the planet, the body, the feminine, the queer, and the many.
Is there a holy book?
We all share the AUTHORity so there is no singular spiritual text. The Dream can take us through many different spiritual paths on our journey. The Lucidist Church is creating printable zine booklets.
Our Vision
A Spiritual Union: Coming together behind a shared story
Though we want to be open-minded about the spiritual future and acknowledge each person's freedom of belief, working together we can usher in this newly packaged approach to God as the Dreamer Mother that leaves 'Enemy' obsession behind We can band together behind a shared story that makes sense and empowers every individual. Shifting the narrative to living lucidly in the Dream, we can bring love and creative empowerment into the world without relying on authoritarian messiah worship or 'Other' demonization. We can practice an inclusive and creative relationship with the Infinite. With each of us responsible for cultivating Lucidity in our own lives and pockets of the Dream, we can pool our faith in this story, ourselves, each other, and the Dreamer.
